Chepelare and the Region

Chepelare is one of the most charming places in Bulgaria, situated in the heart of the Rhodope Mountains. This small town is known for its beautiful nature, rich history, and cozy atmosphere.

Chepelare

Hotel Borika is located in the Rhodope town of Chepelare, situated on the two banks of the Chepelarska river, at the very south-eastern foots of the Chernatitsa Ridge. The average altitude is 1150 meters. The town is only 10 km far away from the mountain resort Pamporovo, 80 km from Plovdiv and 230 km from Sofia.

In Chepelare operates the only Balkan Museum of Speleology, showcasing cave exhibits preserved since the dawn of human history. You can also explore a museum collection of skis and skiing, recounting the rich history of winter sports in the area.

Ski Tourism

Chepelare is one of the most developed ski centers in Bulgaria. The town boasts several of the best ski runs on the Balkan peninsula. Besides the two main ski runs at Mechi Chal, which are respectively 3200 and 5200 meters long, Chepelare offers a ski running track, a biathlon track, a biathlon shooting range, a snowboard center and a children ski school and center. The ski center has a new four-seat lift and several rope lines. 

Attractions in the Region

Chepelare is also a wonderful starting point for hiking tours to many attractions in the Rhodope Mountains. Near Chepelare are the architectural reserve village of Shiroka Laka, the Wonderful Bridges, Yagodinska Cave, the National Astronomical Observatory Rozhen, Devil’s Throat (Dyavolsko Garlo) Cave, and Bachkovo Monastery.
